| Bridget Gray, a poetress, a rapper, an actress. |
Even an "oldhead" can feel the passion.
Can Hip-Hop be redeemed? Ask Bridget Gray.
From the Editor: In the parlance of the street, I would be described as an “oldhead”.
And as oldheads go I suppose I am a typical middle-aged black man that is about to enter into the ranks of the senior citizens clan. I am a card-carrying member of the baby-boomer generation.
So, I was surprised when someone sent me a MP3 file, entitled “My Letter to Hip-Hop”. I will acknowledge that I don’t know “Common from 50 cent”. The genre is not my cup of tea. (I need assistance from my teenaged nieces, “What are they saying?”).
Intrigued I downloaded the MP3 file to my computer and listened to the audio clip. I was pleased when I heard the respectful and contrite voice of Bridget Gray. This young woman had a way with words that made me… well, jealous.
Her command of verbal nuances had an impact on me. Her insight and her condemnations caused me to nod my head in agreement. I was bemused and schooled simultaneously.
I enjoyed her creativity.
