Welcome to An African-American Perspective, a newsletter designed for the residents of North Central Pennsylvania. The purpose of this publication is to bring to the table of discussion, the unique perspectives of African-Americans. With a clear unequivable voice within the wider community, Black Americans can freely present their thoughts and feelings regarding contemporary issues. Volunteers needed.
Volunteer for AmeriCorps and make a difference.

AmeriCorps is the national service program that provides thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds with education awards in exchange for a year or two of community service. AmeriCorps opens the door for citizens to serve in a variety of ways. Through their service and the volunteers they mobilize, AmeriCorps members address critical needs in communities throughout America.

Located throughout Clinton and Lycoming counties service opportunities may include: tutoring and mentoring disadvantaged youth, fighting illiteracy, improving health services, teaching computer skills, developing new programs, managing or operating after-school programs, helping communities respond to disasters, upgrading technology, building organizational capacity, providing academic support in a classroom, marketing events and services or coordinating a day camp.

MEMBERS (VOLUNTEERS) MUST:
Commit to the program for one year
Serve 1700 hours (full-time member) or 900 hours (part-time member)

MEMBERS (VOLUNTEERS) RECEIVE:
$4,725 ($2,362 for part-time members) education award - can be applied to future educational expenses or to repay qualified student loans; award can be claimed up to seven years after service completion

About $444.00 every other week (about $200 for part-time members) living allowance Health coverage, if not enrolled in any other insurance plan (full-time members only) Valuable life and career experience
Personal and professional training (i.e. emergency preparedness, foundations of service learning, community resources, teaching techniques, leadership skills and specific training related to actual service site and responsibilities.
